why would you kill it ? do they bite?

Like bats ... people don't understand them .. so they are afraid .. try and eliminate. Bats ave very important in the areas where they live.

We have many small snakes around my place in the country ... nothing harmful.

well that one was around 5' long and wanted to take a piece out of him while he was working on the air conditioner.
The home owners have small kids and animals also, snake had to go before it went after somebody else.

no but if he was far from it and could identify it, maybe he shouldn't have killed it. But on the other hand if he couldn't identify it, it is better to be safe than sorry. I am thinking if you live in an area with lots of different wildlife, maybe you should be aware of what lives around you.

He was pulling the cover off of the back of the a/c when it came jumping out at him from behind the ac.
Jimmy is a 6'3" ex Green Beret with 26 years in the service,he doesn't scare easy.
If that snake didn't have a problem coming after him what makes you think it wouldn't attack one of the home owners kids if they were playing out there?
Jimmy worked for me before I closed my shop, and I still send plenty of work his way.
I don't doubt his judgement for a second .

I can't blame the snake and I would be pissed if someone opened my bedroom door and pulled the covers off me as well.

I would have found a nice loooong pole and tried to get it away from the AC unit to then ID the snake or attempt to keep it away from people so a more knowledgeable person could let me know how to get rid of it.

Relocating the snake is better than killing it, especially if they are non poisonous. The concerns for safety for others is a valid point, but I don't have any desire to kill animals.

Like I said the snake wanted a piece of him so he took it out,if the snake would have just taken off it wouldn't have been a big deal.
There's not a lot of snake experts to call in west omaha nebraska to relocate a snake in a timely matter.

^ The snake was probably as scared of him as he was of the snake.

I can understand his reasons for wanting to dispatch it, but a shame nonetheless.

"Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?"

I like snakes and would usually say not to kill them unless they are poisonous. I have had bull snake for a pet when I was young. One thing about them is that they do a really good impression of a rattlesnake. They hiss and vibrate their tail to mimic a rattle and they will often flatten their head to give it a triangular shape like a rattler. Can't blame a person for not taking the chance that it isn't poisonous.

Snakes eat rats. Rats are bad. I would have left it alone.

That snake was near your house because there are rodents to eat near your house.

That snake got that big because it was well feed. My guess is it ate 10 mice for every inch of length. If that snake is 5 feet long that is 600 mice.

If each of those mice had lived to produce 30 offspring each that is 18,000 mice in just 2 years.

Snakes do not spread disease or damage your home but rodents will.

Wasn't my house,it was a customers house with little kids.
My buddy jimmy killed the snake after it came jumping out at him.
The home owners who have Small Children were happy to see the snake killed.
If that thing had come after a 5 year old playing in its back yard and bit it on the face would you be telling them" no big deal it's not poisonous" ?

my nuts hang
have yours even dropped? :spit:

I'm not the clown scared of snakes either :bounce:

The guy who killed the snake spent more than 20 years jumping out of airplanes into places you couldn't find on a map if you were standing on them,I'm pretty sure his balls have dropped also.
I'd be willing to bet if I dropped you and him and a snake in a pit together he'd be the one to walk out of there 1st wearing the snake as a bandana.

I like to kill cockroaches and rats under my home, even though neither are a real threat to me.

People that want to get upset at someone killing a big snake that crawled out of their home can go protest at a PETA rally.
