OH the Horror!

I was coming back from Myrtle Beach this afternoon coming from my lawyers office. I coming down 501 and up in front of me about three cars out this guy in his truck darts into traffic. Out of the back of his truck comes a 40 inch wide Craftsman top box. Nobody hit the box but the guy had it so full it looked like it got stretched into a 50 wide. Sockets, Ratchets, wrenches filled the road (he had that thing packed) cars started driving around the tools and the ones on the grass just go run into the dirt. When I got up to where the tools were I just stopped as this guy and his passenger scrambled to get the tools off the road. They were having to run handfuls at the time back and throw them in the cab. Took about 10 minutes of all out gathering to get up the loose tools. I had my Em flashers on and just stayed there listening to the horns blow and then the State Patrol shows up. I had to explain I was just sitting there so nobody would run over these guys. They finally got the remais of the tool box and some of it's contents back in the truck as the State patrol directed traffic. Looked like his tie down strap came loose. His bottom box still looked secure but God I felt bad for him. That had to be a sick feeling. Dont know his story but looked like he may have just left his job. He's having a bad day.

My heart sank just reading that. That guy handled it better than I would've though. I think if I had just lost my job AND my tools fell out of the back of my truck, I might just cut my losses and aim at oncoming traffic.

Damn that must really ****, good to know that nobody got hurt. Then again the driver must have been a fool for driving with a box that was stacked. It could have been worse, he might have killed someone.

They wernt stacked. The top box was sitting on the truck bed. The old dodge (80s) had no tailgate.

Guy I knew lost both the top & bottom boxes taking an exit just a tad too fast, ..looked like a SnapOn truck exploded in the middle of the road...

Same guy also lost one of those HUGE metal demolition balls off a trailer one time. By the time he got back with a forklift to pick it up, it had been stolen. All there was to show where it had been was a large wok shaped dent at the side of the road...

This is why it's never a good idea to rush. Good thing nobody was injured.

If I were moving a toolbox like that, I would have first emptied the drawers and if that's not feasible, lock them up and then heavily tape or rope them shut.

And the tie down broke? Why was this guy only using one tie down?

I had a guy loose his stainless steel top going down the highway. talk about flying debris. that could have killed someone.
another customer found it that was in another dealers route and that dealer called and we got the top delivered back to the guy. it had some major road rash. they didnt know it was gone until they got into town.

Im not sure exactly what happened with the tie down. I saw it loose in the bach of the truck and saw the box moving it as it slid out. It bid bear a strong resemblance to one of those cheap small yellow 4 for 2.99 HF tie downs that don't have the ratchet but just a catch. Looked like one strap per unit

I feel for the guy but agree a little bit of prevention would have solved that problem before it ever started. If it was only held on with one strap then maybe i can talk him in to trying this out for real .....

I think it may have been a case of he got pissed off at work and loaded up and hauled ***. Just used what he had in the truck. (been there done that). I keep seeing that poor craftsman box in my head. Good thing was it wasn't some mega dollar box. I think it was a friction slide model as I so now "ball bearing" embelm on it. Couldnt get a good look at the slides where I was at.

I have an old Nokia cell phone that about 6 years old. It has a camera but they no longer make the cable for downloading. I don't get into mega dollar phones. Make calls, take calls. I like my phone because it's simple and it picks up better than any phone Ive seen.

I was helping a friend do a bathroom remodel at his inlaws and we needed some tools I didn't bring along so we took my tools out of the back of my truck and ran to his house to pick up what we needed. Grabbed his bag of electrical tools, plumbing tools and milwaukee 18V kit. He put it in the back of my truck and we hoped in and left. We get to his inlaws and go to grab the tools and the tailgate was down! No tools left! I had a cover so I couldn't see it was down and he never put the tailgate up after he threw the tools in there. We retraced the 1/2 mile or so drive and everything was gone. Someone got lucky that day!

I know that guys pain somewhat. A few years back I was transporting my boxes from my small shop to my larger shop. My helper was in charge of locking all the boxes and rolling them out into the parking lot for loading. My biggest (and fullest) box got left unlocked, hit a slight decline in the payment, and EVERY drawer came flying open. You can imagine what happened next.

The worst part - About 2 feet away from where the box fell there was a very large storm drain. I probably lost $400 in sockets down the drain, no pun intended. Considering how OCD I am about my tools being organized and in place, it's needless to say I almost had a f-cking heart attack and wanted to choke my helper half to death.

Actually, I figure you were the cause of it all. Any contact with a lawyer will pick up an airborne virus which will infect everyone in a 100' radius and he/she will come down with something which will generate more human misery and thus lawyer business.
