I just can’t throw perfectly good office furniture away...wayyyy to much stuff later:

We’ve broken down the cubicle desks and will probably make a few combinations for the kids. I don’t know with most of it yet, but it will come in handy for something.

A few months later and a few projects further...

1. Furniture more organized, but not quite 50% through the rolling bench builds:

2. New wheels and tires for the M3, I've always loved the look of a machined racing wheel (Fikse, CCW, etc.) and Bimmerworld recently came out with some wheels made for the E36M3, I'm pleased. Deciding on 9" wheels and 255/40 tires required the acquisition of a roller, but all good:

3. Done and in testing: MORE AIR = MORE POWER + MORE SOUND! - Aftermarket Intake and OBD1 M50 intake manifold installed on the E36 will give about +20whp with a proper tune. But the biggest benefit is moving the power up and over to make it feel very strong to redline vs kind of dying out with the small runners on the OBD2 intake manifold.

Intake test fit prior to M50 manifold (keep the variables limited, testing the intake alone:

4. Upcoming! I need to move everything off the walls to do 2.5" of closed cell spray foam before fall weather gets too far down the line.

Insulation in and 8' wall covering going up (internal horizontal studs and 3/4" BCX plywood) on two walls to get storage and benches set.

Electrical too over the next few months. Power all over will be nice. Maybe a mini-split heat pump by the hot season.

Getting some experience with projects using the building, we'll be able to start tying down layouts and get a better "plan" for the work spaces. I realized that I don't have enough experience with this kind of space(s) and I intentionally have been working in flexible configurations, some better than others, but lots of carts, mobile work stations, and lots of trips in and out of storage "piles" to get materials and tools. Also the tools are spread out between the house garage, the basement, the shed, and the barn.

I'm envious of the threads on here where people have a very deliberate plan and the tools in hand to dedicate the spaces to the nearest inch for using them. Right now I'm: build it with screws, you know you will take it apart and change something - that next project will require 6 more inches / that next tool will need 1' more space. I do have an overall goal for the back corner (POV of picture 1) for a loft so everything is planned for that, but otherwise, I've had mixed success on committing, so I may try a complete layout revision when I clean and move it all back. On to the walls this evening!

An update,

1. Bought another BMW and did some work on it.

Lots of cleanup and misc work to make it more efficient and reliable. I need some new pictures of it clean, but I am loving the 3.0TT diesel.

2. Finally got everything put back from the insulation, it was suprising once all the vehicles and items were back how much they took up when not efficiently placed. I have one more parts sorter and 4 shelf units to get on the far wall so everything can be off the floor. I also need to figure out an easy kayak storage system that may be similar to the board / exhaust storage system.

I also had to clean most of the shelving and items that weren't covered. I did put some of that furniture to use though and now have a nice space in my basement.

3. Planning for building a treehouse for the kids over May that I want to assemble in the barn then hoist out to the site to place at the final location.

I finally settled on this to store our paddleboard, simple and out of the way. Should adapt to kayaks pretty easy?

Thanks I like the simplicity, and I think I could fit the kid's kayaks tucked up under the existing racks.

I spent a little more time last night getting things put away and organized in the main workspace and retaped a couple of poorly done joints in the ceiling insulation (when I can get access to the floor space with the scissor lift), with the WFH in place, I'm trying to move things from the garage and basement out to the barn as I get a chance:

I recently was given a vice that has seen some use, but looks to be well cared for:

I'll be making a HD table for it. I like the brass jaw guards for preventing marring of metal parts.

After dealing with poor startup running, and then eventually letting it sit for the winter, I finally got the 335i running as it should.

In late 2018, it started acting a bit weird under full throttle pulls and on occasional startup. I ran it sporatically last year while I ran the codes & replaced a few sensors, and came to the conclusion that it was looking like a HPFP. As it is/was under the 10 year 120k mile extended warranty I took it to the dealership. I HATE TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. Every recall, every extended warranty issue has been met with lots of quotes for outside of service items that could be the cause, may be contributing, etc. I've went, had them tell me it's parts not on the warranty list, and I say ok give that a shot, get charged, it runs OK, or they say they didn't observe the issue.

I parked it for winter, and started back into the diagnosis process this year and came up with the HPFP again. After considering all of the headache with the dealer, and that HPFPs now are less money, and come with lifetime warranties, I figured I would just bite the bullet, do it myself, and take care of other gaskets and wear items that are good preventative maintenance. It was not really that bad, and I now know a bit more of the N54 engine.

IMG_5270.jpg

Then I washed a year's worth of dust off of it and cleaned the barn.

IMG_5307.jpg IMG_5309.jpg

I also scored some shelving to replace my rusty, warped, 20 year old unit that has been with me since the beginning. 2 - 9" depth shelves for quick access and to give a bit more room around the lift post, 2 - 18" shelves, and a beast of a parts bin system. I got the first 9" shelf in place:
