Ohio Flea Market Good Haul......I think?

Went to “Swappers Days” in Lucasville, Ohio for Saturday. Rainy weather was predicted, but never hit us. However, it was VERY humid, and pretty darn hot. Many vendor spaces were sitting empty, and the crowd was light. Worst of all, sales were dismal. But since my primary concern was passing out flyers for our own Troy Swap Meet, we stayed all day Saturday. Since I couldn’t get folks to buy much, I figured I might as well hit the aisles and do some shopping. Vendors were complaining that no one was buying…but that meant that they were willing to deal.
! I got a few cool tools for some pretty good prices. Here are some pix:

This is the haul. The brass light and horn are not part of this deal. Just my old garage decorations…been with me for years. The tool box and all the tools shown were what I bought Saturday.

This first pile from one vendor cost me $25, first in one lot for $20, and the second lot for $5. The seven Bonney combo wrenches at center are brand new unused, with their pouch, but there were originally 4 other wrenches in that set, now missing. RATS!

Last photo of this package deal: 1 strange 3-piece adjustable crowfoot tool. It’s an interesting tool. I’ll make a separate post about it later, to see if anyone can tell me anything about it.

Looks like a nice set of Bonney combo wrenches there......5 digit part numbers with the satin finish. Plus an original Utica tool pouch with the Triangle logo. Nice haul!

Here is a package which I bought from a different vendor. Nothing too special, but price was good, at $5.

At right is shown a Klein Tools set of “lineman’s pliers” (or at least, that’s what I always called that style tool). They have good cutting edges, and are in pretty good shape. The Klein name is engraved on the center of one side, pretty artistically. Then in the middle there are two Craftsman wrenches with that early-style logo, with the line from the “C” extending beneath most of the entire word “Craftsman”. The S-curved wrench and the combo wrench at the bottom are both Billings. Above the Craftsman wrenches is a Herbrand Tappet wrench…then two small Indestro DBE wrenches, and finally a really old-looking artifact adjustable wrench, which should look good on the wall somewhere.

Nice haul.
All I got was a 3/8" Crapsman roundhead, Challenger interchangeable bit screwdriver thats missing the handle cap and a 1/2" Bonney short speeder thats so worn it must have been used to build a battleship by itself.

This small package cost me another $5. Again, nothing to blow your mind here, but good tools at good prices.

The universal unit at top left is a Walden-Worcester brand. It is 1/2" drive to 1/2" drive. It's kinda sloppy and loose, but otherwise pretty good in appearance.
Next to the right, the largest socket is a RAY brand socket. I have one other of these, and they appear very old, and are pretty cool looking. I'll probably keep this one.
The middle socket is Billings brand, 1/2" drive, 3/4 size.
Next is a Herbrand 1/2" drive 11/16 size.
The last socket is really strange looking. It is Herbrand, 3/8 drive, but it is totally copper in appearance, except for the pins which look like plated steel. Yet a magnet sticks to it nicely. So I wonder...did someone work at a plater, and stick this tool into the copper plating tank? Anyone have any ideas?
Behind the sockets is an S-curve Westcott adjustable wrench. I have seen several of these around during my tool searches, but for whatever reason they are always priced high. So I finally got this one in this little $5 package deal.
Below the sockets is a ratchet-wrench which looks exactly like those "Z" numbered FORD factory tools. But this one is a "RAY" brand tool. It is the third RAY tool I have ever seen. I'm starting to like them!
At right are two screwdrivers. The left one is a really nice PROTO PROFESSIONAL, #9784. The finish is nice, lettering clear. Pretty uncommon condition for a wood-handled screwdriver. I'll bet this one will end up on someone's tool display board some day.
At far right is a wood-handled MAC screwdriver. My dad had a whole set of these, and I am slowly trying to replace them in my tool box.

Next group cost me a little more money. It was mostly sockets, and the guy wanted a dollar apiece, according to his little sign. But he was cursing the heat, and starting to pack. He and I chatted for a few minutes, mostly griping about the humidity. All the while he was packing and I was trying to count how many USA-made sockets were in his little tray. He suddenly stopped and asked me to just make an offer on all of them. I told him I didn't want to be rude or make him mad, but he said just make him an offer. He hadn't sold anything for a long time. I said I would pay $20, if he threw in that little 1/4 Allen ratchet. He was clearly shocked at the offer, but thought it over for a minute and said, "Fine. Give me your money."

Tonight while setting up the photo I counted the sockets. At the top rwo left there are two sockets marked "Made in USA", but no brand name. Then next same row at right is a small cluster of Asian sockets. Next row ROUGHLY from left to right there were 1 Apex, 1 Armstrong, 1 Bonney, 59 Craftsman, 2 Husky, 1 Indestro, 4 Kraueter, 1 MAC (sitting on wrench), 1 New Britain, 1 Proto Professional, and 3 SK sockets. There was also the 1/4" drive Allen ratchet, and a very old-looking MAC brand open end wrench.

My mother made that ashtray, and the Hupmobile one too. She made several different ones from original radiator emblems and other automotive emblems, when we were all in the antique car club. She gave them to car friends as gifts, and even tried to sell a few at swap meets long ago (She's been gone for 32 years now). If I remember correctly, they didn't sell very well. I still have her molds, and several units around here somewhere. I don't smoke, but they make nice little trays for tiny clips and screws.

Believe it or not, the most money I spent on a package was for this, the smallest package. There were only 3 tools in it. One Plomb breaker bar, one Plomb combo wrench, and One Snap On ratchet.

The Plomb breaker bar is really big...3/4" drive, number 5668. It doesn't look like it was ever plated. It has surface rust. He wanted $20 firm. GEEZ!

The Plomb combo wrench is 1-3/8 size, part number 1244. It is the nicest-condition I have ever seen on a Plomb wrench in my recent months of searching for used tools. I couldn't resist it at $10. I know it's too much; that's the most I have EVER paid for a wrench!

The Snap On ratchet is an old one, marked "No. 71". I have seen so many cool units about like this one on Garage Journal that I could not resist it. You can see his $20 price tag in magic marker ink. Ouch!
I tried every negotiating skill I had, but he wasn't budging much. Finally, he relented a little, and offered me the 3 tools for $40. OUCH AGAIN!!!
I couldn't believe it...but I wanted those tools, and went ahead and paid it. He had LOTS of other tools I wanted, including Snap On Sockets over 4" in size. But they were $25 apiece!!!!
I am better suited to tools which are less than a buck apiece. This high-priced stuff made me perspire more than the heat!

Last item that I got during this flea market was an interesting old metal tool box. It cost me a grand total of one dollar.
I am hoping you folks can give me a hint as to the maker, based on the stamped-in logo. Please see the photos:

You can't see too much detail of the logo in this shot, but I wanted you to see the whole tool box.

Now you can see the logo a little better. The paint is better preserved on the inside.

C'mon all you tool gurus...someone has GOT to know the maker who used that logo design!

Very nice haul indeed. I might have to go out to Ohio to find Bonney wrenches, they were a dime a dozen out here last year, haven't found one this year, not one. Probably too many people found this board and eBay.

How is it that you only live around 75 miles away from me and you find all this cool stuff? All I have found some little stuff like a U circle Craftsman. Your going to have to hit me up if you find any good fleas in my area
