I just got a call from a carpenter friend of mine. He just noticed that his air compressor is leaking oil at the intake filter. I have not been out to look at it, and I can't make it until the morning and he is/was planing on spraying a lot tomorrow. What could be causing this? perhaps the filter is clogged (with saw dust I suppose) and is causing oil to spit back from the valves??? :dunno:

Sounds like an over pressure in the crankcase. check the crankcase vent for blockage and that the sump oil level is not to full. Could also be piston rings. It is worth stripping the valves out as compressor plate valves that get too oily can start to stick and not operate properly.
