I've been struggling with the same issue -- Diesel truck holds 15 quarts and I have the same pan as the first post (15 quarts) -- makes a mess!

Obviously I need something that holds at least 4 gallons (16 quarts). I may have to give up on the all in one idea and just get a big pan and use a 5 gallon gas can for storage. I've been looking for a long time and have yet to find something I like.

Still looking for any more ideas though...

I do a lot of work here at the house and actually have two 5 gallon Racing Fuel Jugs that I use. They easily handle the weight and have handles that are balanced. They have lids that do not leak when it is knocked over. I have a big funnel for it that I use that also allows me to easily drain the filters. The Jug easily stands when I leave the drain pan draining into it overnight. The only problem is that Autozone by me has a 4 Gallon Waste Oil Limit They always take it anyway but ask that I put 4 quarts on the sheet.

I stopped changing my own oil. I still do asll my own repairs but the oil change places are so cheap, I just let them do it.

Cheap? I know I save $20 each time I do my own oil change (vs Mr Lube or Pennzoil) and I know it's done right, using a quality filter, new crush washer and not having the bolt reefed on to the point where Arnold himself would break a sweat getting it off.

I know you said you wanted a metal solution. If you can find a fuel cell for cheap on CL then just weld a funnel on it. If have seen some pretty odd shaped cells in my day. Seems kinda expensive for just an oil pan, but hey its your money.

I think the question was that he was tired of the pan its self, which i think works great for oil changes, then i pour my used stuff from pan to old laundry containers with the built in spout its great, then off too the local township yard to drop off. You could use a boat dip stick oil pump out and never use a pan again:) only thing i never liked about those is that you never let the gook out the bottom of drain plug. But they work, and you could use an old shop rag for the filter change done.... not too messy either. just my 2 cents.

I agree with tciani to a great extent. Me and Mrs E-tek take our newer cars in usually. We certainly aren't changing ****** and diff oil - or antifreeze - more than once every 5 years! The oil changes are 35.oo for reg oil - that's cheap with the time!!!

I am with you two. I certainly can change my own oil and used to for years. no great genius involved which is why I don't mind taking my car to a quick change place. of course you have to take some responsibility and look under your car after you drive a while, and check your fluid levels occasionally. but my free time is precious to me. I would much rather spend it doing something else such as building shelves finishing my walls, or working on my mustang. and to drag the oil back to a parts store gets oil all over the place in my job if I am on call I can't be getting dirty, and I am on call every other day. I still do it occasionally, like when I pull an engine, or like the other day when I serviced my friends tractor in exchange for him letting me use it for a few days. on those days yeah you take the time. but for routine maintenance my time is worth more to me.
