A while back i came up with a device to fill a need or want. I'm wondering if anyone else had a similar idea or suggestion on improvement. I used a piece of 4" pvc with a cap on the bottom and a reducer on the top to fit the shop vac. Then i ran some small tubing through the side and down inside. It works great to extract oil out of a lawn mower, generator, or cleaning carbs and temoving old rotten gas. Just the other day i used it to extract the oil from the lathe headstock and **** out all the little particles. What do you guys think?uploadfromtaptalk1465357016111.jpguploadfromtaptalk1465357038673.jpguploadfromtaptalk1465357065905.jpg

Have it raised above the ground enough to fit a drain valve at the bottom so you don't have to make a mess on the vacuum fitting when emptying its contents.

Huh... Intregway... I have been needing to buy an oil extractor for my car but didn't want to because of the likelihood that Volkswagen will be buying it back. I wonder if that would fit the bill. Could be fun to build at least.

I'm sort of tempted to build one myself for my generator, mower, air compressor, etc. It's a cool idea and I like that it can be built for just a couple bucks worth of pipe. I need one for the cars as well, but one of them holds almost 9 quarts so I'm afraid I might have to go for a commercial solution. HF has one for about $150 that I've had my eye on.

I would kina like to make a little bigger one with 6" pvc. The first one i used a 5 gallon bucket but it collapsed under suction. And i tried a vacuum pump but it doesn't really have much flow. Harbour freight makes one that is pneumatic and the capacity is nice but its like $150! And i have a mitty-vac brand that holds maybe a quart for bleeding brakes but it isn't very powerful. I've had this contraption for several years now and I use it all the time! The top cap comes off easily to empty the shmoo. uploadfromtaptalk1465368956966.jpg

I grabbed something like this for pulling vacuum on hydraulic tanks so I did not have to drain them. I set it up with a regulator, small ball valves and quick connect fittings. I have since built many containers to do many tasks: drain coolant systems, bleed brakes, lower overfilled engine oil, etc.

I got by for a long time by using a $15 air/suction spray gun I converted, but it grew legs and walked away when a co-worker quit.
