I have a hydro turf oil extractor from Amazon. I previously had a Unit from Westmarine that was faster but it went up to $90+. The smaller round hydro turf works, but is a little slower and only holds 5 qts. No big deal. Dump it and keep pumping to get the rest. My daughter used it to change the oil in her 2.2l Chevy Cobalt. We changed the filter first to get all the oil into the pan (cartridge filter on top of engine), then we removed 5 quarts. We replaced the filter, poured in the 5 qt Mobil 1 jug and the dipstick was right at the full mark. Works for me. I used it on my Ford that used 6 qts. Due for a change in a snowstorm. Did not change the filter, so it only got 5 1/2 of the 6 qts. I usually change the filter too and the filter and plumbing above it seem to hold around 1/2 qt. I dont always use it, but since I've had a boat, I've had one and like them. It seems to get pretty much everything in the pan.

I have one and it works pretty well. It takes about 20 minutes to remove the oil but I think that was on me primarily for not pumping enough and then leaving. It really beats getting under and wrenching.

I have the pela-6000

I just used my new MityVac for the first time last weekend. Changed the oil in 2 cars and although slower than I would like, it worked great. My Mercedes takes almost 8 qt so I'm glad I got the big one. Got it from Amazon for right at $85 shipped. Way easier than ramps or jacking and don't have to mess with removing the under body trays.

Kind of wish that I got the pneumatic version that runs off an air compressor as it would speed up the process.

They are pretty much the only way to change oil on boats, unless you have a built in oil change system (very common on anything over about 35' and well worth it, especially on the bigger diesels that might need 5-10 gallons each plas a couple of gensets and the trannies).

I have one of the west marine manual pump units at home but rarely use it. At work I have a jabsco electric one that's probably moved 1000 gallons with nothing more than a couple impeller changes. Only thing bad I can say about it is with the pump mounted to the bucket lid it's very top heavy when empty and WILL turn turtle on you if aren't careful when you pick it up.

As stated, you have to warm the engine prior to using one or you'll never get the oil out.

Anyone use a oil extractor for changing oil ?

I don't have a lift and it could be much easier (and safer) than having to put the car up on ramps or jackstands.

for cars with no drain plug sure, but cars with drain plug why would you do that?

Have the mitivac mv7300 it's the pneumatic one. I use it on random extractions in the shop. So far so good, mostly used on ATF
