I am looking at buying this oil filter wrench from snap on, but I was wondering if anyone knew who the OEM manufacture is for these? This one says made in USA. I have found a couple like this one from OTC and KD tools, but im not sure if they are made in USA. I dont mind that much if it is not made in USA, but I want it to last. If there is any other manufacture that you know of that makes these, let me know. Thanks

Here is the OTC one. It is alot cheaper than the snap on one, but im not sure if it is good quality.

I have a snap on band filter wrench with the handle as part of the tool. I've found it gets a lot less use since I bought my snap on three leg filter wrench.

well, I need one like this for the filters I use it for. I use a 17" ratchet to break loose some of the filters, so the little handle wont work.

Is it made in USA? Thats good to know it will last. I was just a little concerned that it is so cheap in price. I thought it may be cheaply made. How would I warranty the OTC if it ever broke? Would I have to ship it to them?

Thanks!

i couldnt tell you the COO, ive had mine along time, ive had a 24" breaker bar on mine before, only thing that ever happened was a lost a snap ring off one of the pivot pins.
something else you may consider, if you have the room, for those titeazz filters in a long chain wrench. i used to use mine a lot for large filters.

If I have a problem with some tight filters, I bring out the 20" channellocks, and that usually does the trick. One of the other techs has this filter wrench, and it works great. His is from snap on. I think I may order the OTC one and see how it does. Thanks for the info.

I have the strap style, 3-tab and metal strap with swival/universal built in. They are all made in U.S.A. and are Lisle. My most used is metal strap as it is many years old. I find the fibre strap slips too much. The 3-tab/finger I like the best, with breaker bar it does well on my diesels.
The tuff ones use to get the big end groove pliers or a big screw driver pounded through it the turn the filter via screwdriver. If that don't work then it was the chisel and hammer treatment, lol

Thanks, JASTECH

These are great, one of the good things that HF sells. I have had one for years, it is adjustable like a vise-grip plier and will not crush a stuck filter. They are less than $10.

Lisle has a similar on with a smaller width band to get into more areas. Mine lasted several years until I ran across a couple filters that some idiot had put on. I actually broke the bolt, then I replaced the bolt and screwed up the filter wrench. I believe they are about $15.

That wrench is not big enough for the filters I work with. They are around 5 inches across.

I've always wondered why they dont make that style for the diesel guys ... they work fantastic for auto applications.

Perhaps you could look into Channellocks filter pliers.. seems to do the trick for me when my strap wrenches slip.

They come in a variety of sizes for small to large filters
