I bought this yesterday at an estate sale. I actually thought it was a vacuum pump, until I got home and looked it over. It runs okay and puts out air, but I've never seen a compressor without a tank. How is it used? Connect it to a separate tank? Or just fill your tires slowly? It's got me stumped.

I've got an old (much newer than yours) one that my wife used a lot with her woodworking to blowdust out. Mine has a small cavity in the head part with a popoff valve at 35psi. It will air up a tire pretty quick. Forever ago guys would use them for airbrushing, and cabinet/trim guys used them for brad nailing. This was before the era of those little pancake compressors.
campbell hausfeld had a pump sans tank, they called it powerpal . I had one for doing small brad nail jobs . It would continually run and pop off pressure when it reached the preset pressure you had set
