Oil spill/stain

I had a drain pan leak oil onto my new (about 6 weeks old at the time of the spill) concrete floor. It was there for about a day before I saw it and cleaned it up. I've wiped it up with Greased lightening and 409 and have Oil Dri ground into the area and the stain is still there. Any ideas/products?

We have Pour N Restore. Works Great!

I had a 1 gallon jug of used motor oil break on my (nor new) concrete ! What a mess !!!

I have used both greased Lightening and Drive Up following these directions. Apply full strength to the stain, Scrub in wit a stiff brush or push broom. Let sit overnight. Rinse with garden hose.

If this does nor get all of the stain, wait 24 hours and repeat. I have had fantastic results with this process.

Thanks guys, I guess I'm an impatient *******. I put the GL down wiped it around for a few .....seconds then rinsed it away. Pour and restore sounds like a good product. How much from you?

Because the oil was not there for long it should remove completely. If not it should fade completely within 6 mths.

I am back in the office, at least until the next four day weekend

Pour N Restore is a pretty affordable way to go. We have different sizes etc and it works very very well.

I've have oil spills all the time. I get on my hands and knees and use Brake-Clean, a brush and a rag. You can see the oil get dissolved and come right up and it evaporates pretty quick. I compare it to getting oil out of brake shoe lining.

Pour mineral spirits on stain.
Cover with floor dri. Don't grind it in or scrub.
Walk away.
After 4 hours, sweep up floor dri, stain should be gone.

When I was moving, we used the daily driver Dodge Caravan to haul daily. After three days the left and right transaxle seals blew out leaking onto the pristine concrete ay the new place. Pour n Restore cleaned it up and made me a believer.

In the rear garage, I knocked over an oil change container of used black motor oil. It did the trick there also.

I simply hosed it off after sweeping up the powder.

+1 for the Pour n Restore. I was amazed how well that worked on my floor. If your garage isn't heated you might need / want to place a space heater or high output halogen lamp to warm the area after applying the Pour n Restore. Before I used it on my floor I read some where that the stuff is works better at warmer temps. For what its worth it seemed to be more effective when I applied a little heat.

I looked at Pour n' Restore - but a few reviews on Amazon says that they changed the formula and it doesn't work as well. Is that true, or should I stop trusting Amazon reviews..

I purchased a gallon of it for an elderly friend of the family in November of 2012. She was dealing with OLD oil stains. The first time she used it she said that it got up anything and everything that was not 'crusty' the second time she used their degreaser first (but I would imagine any would do and she had great success.

I have used it myself. On new oil stains it works as advertised. On old oil stains, if they are covered in dirt and other junk, not so much. If its an old stain and you scrape the top layer off it seems to do well

This my sound odd, but prior to sealing my garage floor I was told to use starting fluid on any stain residue left after trying the typical products.

It worked better than brake clean and all the other products I tried.

Curious on this one... What did you use after you removed the oil to clean the starting fluid? Obviously same issue applies to Pour N Restore and brake cleaner... Get rid of any residue, curious if soap and water did the trick on that though

You just rattled my memory. I've used starting fluid too, and it also worked great.

I also think I used lacquer thinner in a pinch and mineral spirits. The spirits is the least effective and leaves a residue.

Back in my younger days I was renting a house with some buds and I pulled a ****** in the garage. oil was verywhere. I grabbed up some cat litter that had some kinda bleach odor controller in it and scattered it liberally over the oil ( no it wasn't my frickin cat) 2 days later I swept it out and the floor was bright white were the oil spill was. stayed white for several months too.

Carb cleaner and heat. Sweat it out, wipe it off, repeat.
