oil stain application instrument

I've been back and forth on this decision for 2 weeks waiting for the fence to to dry out from the rain.
I have about 40 panels of 6x8 stockade to stain. Just cleaned it using Olympic no scrub cleaner. best stuff ever. used about 50 bucks worth to do all of it one side. highly recommend. no scrubbing.

At first I thought about using my graco sprayer and got a 411 tip for it. But then I was concerned about the cleanup of 50 feet of hose and equipment. I bought it primarily for latex and not sure if the cleanup for oil will be worth it.
so I got a 2 gallon pump tank that is designed for stain application. But as the pressure changes in the tank i'll have different spray pattern/amounts.

My main concern is an even coat and not a lot of backbrushing after application. any opinions which you would use?

You won't be happy with the results from the pump sprayer, very difficult to get consistent coverage. I would buy a cheap (like $100) Wagner sprayer. I know that's not really cheap but that's a lot of fence to cover.

Just use your airless and be done with it.

I thought this would be about old Toyotas... that's what I use to apply oil stains. Doesn't work real well on vertical surfaces.

Seriously, I bought on old 1 quart Wagner at a yard sale, used it and had good results.

Due to the amount of fence i'm not going to use anything less then 2 gallons. i'd be filling that wagner every ten minutes.
Ok follow up question. if I did use the airless how much cleaner would I need to get it clean in the 50 foot hose?

I can't help you there as I'll blow up a half gallon just cleaning my quart sized spray gun. Lol

But you could however modify your pump with a air fitting and supply it with a constant source off a compressor. Just regulate it to 20-40 psi or whatever suites your needs.

I used a roller in a five gallon bucket for my fence. Three rail several hundred feet.

Only had to hit a few spots with a brush.

The stain I used was sherwin williams.

I've heard of people using a push broom for the back brushing.

I have one of them wagner sprayers with the back pack that holds 2 gallons and use a liner and there is not much clean up.

Put the gun inside a HD plastic bag and make a hole in it so just the tip protrudes.

I'll bet some place sells some kind of disposable hose cover. Worst case, get some automotive painters paper and rip into 4" wide strips and wind them onto the hose and tape in place.

I should have been clearer. I don't care about the outside. I was concerned of getting the oil out of the inside of the hose/machine. I bought a gallon of cleaner to run through it. I've decided to use the airless just due to the amount I have to do. I'm not very experienced with it so hoping I can do it without noticeable lines. its a semi transparent stain so any overlap or heavy spray I think will be noticeable. if it ever stops raining i'll be doing it. haven't had 2 dry days in 3 weeks up here.

Don't use oil. The acrylic stains are far superior to the oils these days.
