hey man,

you just beat me to it,

I reached out to Armorcoat and they recommended an OIL SPOT PRIMER,

****** heck, pity no-one recommended this prior.
I googled it up last night and apparently a couple of companies do this includuing legacy, not sure why no-one suggested this.

But apparently, it bonds over the oil stain and stops bleed through,
I think there is an epoxy version. You still need to clean and etch the floor.

Would have saved me a weeks worth of work and over 200 bucks on Valspar :)

I did some radio promotion for AC recently, so they are kindly sending me some gratis (I've sent them my pics so they can work out the ammount to ship)

Have attached the pics of the garage stains, they are better but the camera is making the stains lighter than they are.

I'm going to crack on with some other prep work and wait for the primer to arrive.

Re: oil stains - pre-prep questions !! SOLVED !! I think !

What they probably did not tell you is that it is black. Really black.

If spot primed it will show through a light colored epoxy.

It is however effective.

Great idea, Jay. It always pays to ask questions and keep thinking because no one cares about our projects or thinks through the solutions more than us (owners).

Thanks Legacy , Baba,

I've got 3 more containers of Valspar and I'm going to try it a little different. I have poured it and then thinned it out with a scraper so its not just a blob. Its not FULLY drying to a powder and I'm wondering if thats the problem.

If not I'll try it thicker (saken and straight from the can) and wait for it to go to powder, but even afer 12 hours it hasnt turned to powder, I think... its been said here before, its when it turns to powder it does its trick..

The after pics ARE STILL a **** load better than the before.

I'll make a decision then, still thinkingg of ordering that P&R (would have been cheaper)
Or might just say to hell with and see what happens after a clean and etch,

I've put a lott of time into the prep and dont wanna blow it now.

At least surface no longer feels oily to the touch or beading anywhere

jeese if only I knew now what oil does to a garage (I'd never have just left cans around dripping or done oil changes without clearing up... Hindsight I suppose is a wonderfull master !

Jaye: I can't recall if you said you are grinding, but I had a similar problem under where the car tires sat in my garage. I just kept grinding until they went away. It took a while, but it seems to have worked. I'll find out for sure when I lay primer tomorrow.
