oiling air tools

I just set up a 6 HP/60GAL compressor, that I purchased from this sites classifieds. My question is how many people out there use an in line oiler with their machine as opposed to oiling their tools once per day?

Inline oilers were popular at one time, but I think everyone just oil once per day or if they are lazy, not at all ... Me, I oil prior to usage per day ...

I have two outlets after my Kaiser dryer ... one with an auto oiler (tools) and one without (paint).

I just oil all my tools at once the first time I use a tool,t hat way I don't forget about the others. Sometimes if I'm using one for a big engine job or whatever, I might give it another oil.

I have an inline oiler sitting on the shelf. It was too much of a mess to be worth the time and effort. It also slimes the inside of your air hoses over time and causes deterioration.

I oil my tools before I use them and again when I put them away for the day. On stationary air tools, like my planishing hammer, I installed a small inline oiler a few feet before the tool. I used a standard 3 foot section of hose to plumb the oiler into the tool.

I give my tools about 6 drops of oil in the morning and again at lunchtime if I'm using them heavily. Otherwise, about 6 drops before each occasional use. I don't think you can over oil an air tool. The excess will just get spit out at you. I had this validated by a CP engineer I spoke to in the past after purchasing a CP 1" impact wrench.

I oil all of my air tools with a half-dozen drops and a quick blip weekly. The impacts, daily. Air ratchets (which I don't use nearly as much) fall somewhere in between.

You're better off oiling them when you're done that at the beginning of the day. That way the internals are protected from surface-rust while sitting, and they're still effectively oiled when you crack open your toolbox next time.

Oil at end of day with a few drops of Marvel Mystery oil and then turn them a few times with air.
