Oiling 'sealed' round head ratchet?

I have a Husky round-head ratchet I bought from Home Depot in 1996. I don't see any way of opening the head to lubricate the gear and pawl(s). No snap ring, screws, nothing. Is this not meant to be opened?

I usually open up my Snap-on 3/8 pear-head ratchet every couple years to clean and re-lubricate, but this one doesn't seem to be very service friendly.

Thanks for your help!

If you look closely you will probably find a snap ring that coils up around the head on it. Sometimes a good wiping is needed to wipe dirt/rust/debris out of the edge to see what you have.

4x4gearhead, you were right! I did look a little more closely, and lo and behold, there was the spiral circlip holding the head together.

stonesfan68, that thread was exactly what I needed to disassemble this ratchet.

Thank you to you both. Your help was greatly appreciated!

...and what do I see when I disassemble this ratchet? Dry as dust inside, with no traces of even old lubricant. Wear on the pawl and ring, obviously, but not terrible. I'm going to lubricate this with Amsoil MP "red" grease. Should improve 100%.

Thanks again, guys. I needed a pointer on how to remove that ring, but once I saw that thread, easy as pie. Did it in 30 seconds with 2 micro flathead screwdrivers.
