First of all, thanks for the great forum. I found this a while back and have really been enjoying reading all of the great info.

I've got what is probably a very stupid question. After I wipe off my tools, what should oil them with? 3 in 1 oil? WD-40? Could someone explain some of the different lubricants and why you should or should not use them?

Thanks for your help.

either will work just fine ... i keep a small bottle (16 oz. soda bottle) filled with used motor oil around ... dampen a shop rag (a little will go a long way) wipe them down, forget about 'em.

The only tools I oil are air tools and tools exposed to water. All my other tools just get wiped down. I dont try to polish my tools to be sterile, I just make sure I get the heavy stuff off, because the light coating from a job on there already will keep them nice. Most tools dont really rust on thier own anyway, only when exposed to water or high humidity.
