My father-in-law was a tool dealer for about 30 years. Nothing too expensive or anything to get excited about.

We sold 99% of his old stock a couple of years ago.

Yesterday I found a box full of sockets. I put together a set of just about everything for my son. Very cool!

But I have a weird assortment left and wanted your advice on how and where to sell it.

It's about one or 2 dozen 10mm Deep sockets along with a dozen (or more) deep sockets in 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, and 3/4. And well over a dozen regular 9/16 sockets. All of them are 3/8 drive.

How would you sell such a large amount of sockets in such specific sizes?

Oh, and FYI, 99% of them are Ktool made in Taiwan. Pretty nice sockets actually! Lifetime warranty at carquest or something like that.

The chrome is good on most, but they've been in storage so they're pretty dirty with a little pitting here and there.

Any advice?

Donate them to Habitat or something and take the write-off?

Otherwise I would say singles on eBay...?

Good luck!

Yeah I will probably do that. Local high school shop classes or something.

I keep thinking of John Candy selling the shower curtain rings in Planes, trains, and Automobiles. 10mm deeps would make some killer ear rings. :)

I've tried and tried to sell loose sockets and it usually doesn't work. It's usually just not worth the hassle. If I get any odds and ends that I don't want I sell them in a lot on eBay. Hardly ever make anything, but somebody gets a good deal and I get some room back.

As suggested, give them to somebody who needs them. That's a pretty decent payment in my opinion.

I keep a 5 gallon bucket in the shop for **** tools. As I buy tool lots, the crappy tools go in the bucket. When the wife has a garage sale I put the bucket in for $5 or so. it always sells.

Step 1: paint the insides silver so they look like SK sockets. Make sure the paint is silver and neatness doesn't count.
Step2: stand back while people attracted to sockets with painted insides flood your house like locusts.
