interesting thread.........

my 2cents.......i dont care if you are a senior or a junior member i will treat you the same.

if you are here to have input and help others good for you......

if you are here just to promote your ebay business, i'm probably not going to help you much. i would rather give a socket to someone who needs one before i'll sell one who is just going to try to "flip" it for profit.

sorry if it offends anyone.......it's just how i feel about it.

I've got to agree with this.

Post numbers mean almost nothing, it is what is said that is most important. It just so happens that some members with high post counts are exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. There are quite a few members with relatively low post counts that have proven themselves to be knowledgeable and trustworthy as well.

The thing is, with a low post count, you're certainly at a disadvantage since it takes time and exposure to earn a reputation and leave others with a reliable impression of yourself. After all, who would you trust more, a stranger off the street, or an acquaintance that you conversed with for a few minutes a day a few times a week for a month? However, that certainly doesn't mean that those with lower post counts should be treated with any less respect or courtesy.

Thoss with higher post counts may be afforded a bit of extra leeway, though, as the community develops a certain level of tolerance for some members. This extra leeway typically only applies to certain "senior" members and their unique antics.

Stuey,
I totally agree with your comments. I have a hard time seperating someone being biased and factual. I do take offense at being accused of using thisboard to "fill socket sets to sell on ebay". Please see the latest post by me titled flare wrenches just a few minutes ago.
Thank you for your honest input.

Hey, Junkman, No-one yet has told me to piss-off yet. Lots of comments / good and bad-but I'm not running for re-election anywhere. Most comments really have honest feelings and I understand that, as a newcomer, trust is an issue.
I did get a great reply from a member that just forgot to send me tools. I thank him, because I had forgotten the purchase and it would have slipped through the old brain I still have left.
I am sure most of the senior members can recall being the new kid on the block.
Please bear with me, as I am old and cranky, but feel that I can add to this forum, some of what I have made mistakes on in the past.

Vinko, Absolutely not-I was willing to pay anyones fair asking price-The only time I haggled price was in Mexico with the street market vendors. I have just gotten let down by people saying they had for sale and never getting a price or commitment to sell or let me pay for what was for sale. Just a couple of small sockets I am missing-guess this has gotten to be way too much of a big deal-easier to buy them from Snap-on.

I have seen no discrimination here, based on post count, seniority or otherwise. I've had a half dozen or so transactions with 3 different members and have only good things to say about them.

The flaming and general BS seems to be much, much less here than most of the forums I frequent, hope it stays that way............it's what made me stick around.

Sorry to hear you got a bum deal, looks like several senior members have stepped up and offered to make it right. Maybe chalk it up to a mis-understanding and give things another whirl?

Just my 2 cents.

You've got get a little thicker skin when posting and not be so upset. I saw your post in the classifieds on the flair nut wrenches and it came accross as "WTF all these posts and no replies??" The rules are you don't tell someone their priced too high. That's what all the looks and no responses mean. So you let it fade away or you open it up to offers. In your defense It's difficult to price used tools. Some are outdated and the value drops, others are outdated but rare and the value increases, and still other speciality tools can be replaced with lesser brands.

As far as dealing with people here you're way off base. I heve never been involved with a more honest bunch of guys. Sometimes the emails are spread over time but hey people have lives away from the monitor and people forget! So a nice reminder email is what you do. If someone doesn't like you filling out sets for resale, thats their business, not yours. I'm always trying to upgrade my tools and I'll sell whatever I have available as extras.

It's sad how many forums are nothing but flame wars or ******* contests. I avoid all those.

That's not the case here, although we still have the odd ******* contest. But that's probably good for your urinary health. :)

I for one didn't even realize there were Junior and Senior members until this post! I never really paid attention to that.

Anyway, I hope this get resolved. I feel bad for every one involved. I have bought a few things from people here. Great communication from them. I haven't received the items yet but its only been a few days. I have complete faith they will follow through with the items as described.

FWIW, this is the friendliest group of people I have ever been involved via the Internet. Its a well run forum too. Sure, we may have differing opinions about this, but that's what makes the world go around. I don't like Snap On tools. Merk for one thinks they hung the Moon! I'll do what I do and he will do what he does. That's what make us different. (Not calling you out Merk! Don't come get me!!!!!!)

This is all I will say on this subject. Have a GREAT day!

just to clear things up a bit........i personally don't have a problem with steve. although i think the reasons behind this thread should have been handled privately.

my post was exactly how i feel and offered as a reason he may not have gotten the response he wanted when trying to buy.

i have listed a couple of things for sale here with no response at all.................i didn't whine and cry about it.

+1 PMs should have been used here.

And I also agree that out of all the forums I am a member of...this one is BY FAR less hostile. The other forums I am a member of, people are having ******* matches daily... LOTS of trolls, Lots of talking down to newer members (noobs, junior members etc) This site has a very mellow, understanding, nice bunch of people. Thats part of the reason I check this foum daily. Out of the 5+ other forums I frequent this one rocks. Good bunch of people IMHO. As far as this thread goes...Im sure it was just a human mistake that will be resolved asap. PMs work wonders though.

I never thought I would see this type of thing here. This has been the friendliest board I have been on, since day one. The only insults I have seen are just good-natured ribbings to promote comraderie (sp?) and because sometimes people get bored.

this is a wonderfully friendly forum... which is why, despite being suddenly ignored on pms by a much respected member of the forum, when I thought we were most of the way into making a deal, I have just accepted it and continued with the rest of the forum.

It does leave a bit of a taste though, and I now read his posts in a slightly different light.

This is a great forum and the comedic ribbing on the side is hilarious! Can't wait to get my posts to a respectable level and then begin trading some good natured jabs with Junkman and Krusty. I have two classified experiences with members, one good and one bad. Experience 1 several weeks ago - I bought some items and the seller actually scoured his extra tools to find a specific item and apologized that he could not find my request. Top notch and a good individual. Experience 2 over the past weekend - saw item for sale and I PM'd seller stating I will buy at asking price if still available and went to bed because it was after 12am. PM received from seller that item is still available and PP address is provided at 12:30am. My wife checks board at 8am, sends payment and it's returned. I then look at my PM's and there's another PM from seller at 1:30am that says it's sold. Interestingly enough, a bit after 1am another individual offers to buy the item and it is sold out from under me at 1:30. Here goes shooting the sacred cow ? but it's the truth and this is why it sounds fishy:
? Seller is a moderator ? I think he can tell if someone is offline and cannot respond.
? No mention in ad that first payment received gets item.
? Buyer was probably a moderator (asked at 1:10am to be next in line if I declined) ? odds are they didn't know that I had not declined to buy (no issue with them).
? Who else but a board member could he have sold to at that time of morning? Plus, if an offer was pending, seller should have mentioned that fact in first PM.
? When asked, the seller replied "Since I had not heard from you I did not know what was going on. I don't normally do that kind of thing, but I needed the money pronto!" What's he going to do at 1:30am with an extra couple of bucks?
In my opinion, and other members can form their own, this was a deal between two older members and the seller's excuse is very transparent. Even if he needed the money fast to buy somewhere online, he broke a deal to suit his needs ? his word is not worth spit at this point and he appears self-serving.
Flame me if you will, but this is how it went down.
This is a fun forum with great people and one person without ethics is not going to keep me from being part of the board and enjoying the information and banter. Things happen and we just move on. Take care

That was sugar coated - no profanity. What do you expect from a "hobby guy eh?" :) That, by the way was a hilarious statement you made in the flare nut wrench thread. I almost soiled myself and even read it to my wife!

For the record, anybody can tell if you're online (logged-in) or not unless I believe "invisibility" or something like that is enabled.
