ok, stupid ? -how do torque multipliers work?

Its a planetary gearset, there is a drive portion, (output) driven, (input) and held (handle on the multiplyer) part
They are usually a 4:1 ratio meaning if you turn the input 4 times with 10 ft lbs of force, the output will move 1 turn with 40 foot lbs of force.

The one I used was set up like a planetary transmission. Think gears.

Fixed.

Make sure you can brace the reaction bar on something real solid.

Keep in mind 15-20% torque loss through the tool as well.

A torque multiplier is a tiny transmission (gear reduction).

1000ftlbs, thats got to be quite a tough socket. I'd say 10 feet of pipe will get ya there without any expensive tools:bounce:
