OK tool experts. What is this socket called, and what's it for?

Found it rattling around in the bottom of my dad's old tool box. He died years ago so I can't ask him.

He would probably have gotten it some time between 1950 and 1970.

It's a 1/4 inch drive socket with no visible markings on it.

He wanted to keep it with his ratchet and probably wanted to keep all socket type tools in one place.

Chrysler used those type of bolts in 2 sizes to bolt in their radios. I have both sizes. Snap on made them and I'm sure they have long since been discontinued. This was their anti theft measure in the 80's and 90's. I still have them in my tool box. Haven't used them since probably 99.

That's gotta be it. My uncle had a Chrysler back when he was in college. I bet dad stole his socket by accident while they were working on the car together.

International used those fasteners on truck dashboards in the 70s and 80s. Friend of mine had to buy one of those sockets to install a new stereo in his 4300 conventional.

Western Michigan University uses that type of fastener in their dorms and facilities to keep people from taking screens out of windows or getting into plumbing or wiring cabinets.
