Interesting device, never heard of that. Although I can generally judge RPM just by sound within a couple hundred RPM's.

Also used to measure vibration frequency. There's a HZ scale on it.

Makes it easy to separate a tire vibration from a driveline vibration.

fordnut85, if you could find the instruction/teaching on the internet, you can use that to find the frequency of a vehicles vibration and get the direction to your problem. I had a Ford class, and the instructor turned us on to one of those if the proper tool was not available.

I've had one for over 20 years. Bought it from Briggs and Stratton when I worked in the dealership. Made by the same Mfr, it came in a red vinyl sleeve. I haven't used it in a LONG time. It takes a bit of practice, but once you're good with it, you can get very close to what a digital tach says.
