I don't know, but I wish I could come across a set.

I seen those while looking for some filler Diamonds myself.

Just crazy.

Yikes! Those must be some special wrenches. I maybe see it if they were unique in some way by a company that existed for one year, but Craftsman adjusting wretches are supremely plentiful.

$500 and 11 bids. Do they know something we don't?

Wow. Just wow.

I picked up a couple pair of Diamond slip-joint pliers last week for $2 ea. Think I'll list them on ebay...

At least the buyer got Economy Shipping.

Nice wrenches, but I think someone went over the cliff on these.
Just something to hold and admire.
But, I don't blame them, I have a couple of things (tools) that fall under that category.

To the winning bidder. Enjoy.

More likely, you've seen an old tradition, in which people who knew the deceased will bid high when the deceased person's possessions are auctioned off

This is a way to provide some economic help for the surviving family, who would never consider accepting a 'charitable donation'.

cheers

Carla,

What a kind and gentle soul you must be to have thought of such an act of civility.

If your theory is correct, they were pretty good actors too as both the high bidders entered their final bid within 5 seconds of the end of the auction.

While I wish your theory was what happened here, I'm pretty sure this is a classic case of two bidders who miscalculated how bad the other guy wanted the wrenches.

I sold a couple of brackets from an old tractor about 6 years ago. On a REALLY good day they might bring $30. They sold on eBay for $152. Even better, the winner actually paid me.

Ha!

Best regards,

Scott

Amazing-perhaps some people will pay anything to complete a collection. They're nice of course but--really! And of course here were at least two bidders to reach that price.

I just sold a beautiful virtually unused 8" Trimo adjustable with 1911 patent date on Ebay for all of $5.00.

Being from Duluth where these are made I am always interested in finding out more about some of the wrenches they made.

So after seeing this thread this morning I spent some time looking for an answer as to why anyone would pay so much for them.

It seems that the red handle is the answer, it is very rare to find them with the red still intact and to a collector it would be worth it I guess.

I'd be curious to know the circumstances of this. I'm wondering if both bidders didn't put in a giant bid within the last few seconds thinking the other guy would give up after a few "outbid notices".

I'm not going to lie, I've dropped super bids before but never had it blow up in my face, knock on wood.

Bidding against himself? Only cost is eBay fee. A month later, sell them on eBay with a record that they are worth "$500" dollars.

Who knows.

I was at a charity auction for a local fire department. They sold the ugliest table lamp that I have ever seen. I bought it for $10.00. Then I immediately donated it back. It sold 20 or more times that night. You might be right

Unusual bidding patterns on ebay can be a sign of fraud or money laundering. But perhaps there is a real collector's market for those wrenches.
