I live in Norman (just south of OKC). I don't think I've ever seen this picture. Any idea what the address would have been?
looks like there is some kind of radio or TV antena in the reflection on the glass, for what that might help ya, beck.
Does that clock hang from the ceiling? and it looks like it has lights that go around the walls in the ceiling. that place is sweet.
I wonder how that roof is supported...

The reflection in the glass is an old wood oil derrick. The most famous one in OKC is on the State Capitol lawn. Not sure if this is it, but based on the architecture of the garage, this would be one of the older areas of OKC, possibly near the capitol building.

OKC is a great city to visit, hot as hell in the summer time. That old garage is a classic.

Has anyone noticed the "Anderson Prichard" above tha garage doors? I would think that would be enough fodder for some investigation amongst the local peoples?

By far the most beautiful service station I've ever seen. Would have been a privelege to buy gas or get service there back in the day.

What are you talking about? There are oil wells in amongst the houses in the historic lincoln park area just east of the capitol.
But... no walmarts.
Those building are part of automotive history that is disappearing everyday.
Those should be protected and restored just like any other historical building.
Here is one in Sacramento that if I only had the money I would restore and put some type of business in it. I hate driving by and seeing it all messed up.

That station was on nw 12 and walker in okc. I'll ask my some of my friends to see what they know and next week I'll be doing some ceilings in some houses just north of there so I will try to go by and see what the area looks like now. Not my normal part of town. Here is a different angle shot.

There's a building there "New world Latin Cuisine" that has a front bay window that looks similar to the garage in question... I don't think it's the same building though.

And it even brought Ryan out to get it started. Yea us! Trying to find some contacts that might be old enough to remember this place that aren't dead or lost in space. And yes it does get hot here, maybe hot as hell, I don't know I am only concerned if hell freezes over, I'll be in deep s**t.

That's just a couple of blocks from my office at 13th & Robinson. I'll print a copy of the photo and take it into the folks at 1492 and ask them, but as I recall, that building was built from scratch, maybe to evoke the history of the previous building. I'd bet you could take the photo next door to Boulevard Cafeteria, lots of older people eat there, have for years and years.
There used to lots of really cool buildings in the downtown OKC area, but urban sprawl lead to the demise of the downtown area. A few leaders brought in a famous architect named I.M. Pei to revitalize it. Unfortunately, his plan called for the demolition of many of these buildings.
I've seen street photos of some of these old buildings and they're just as cool looking as that old gas station. The new MAPS plan that came about in the early 90's has really revitalized the downtown area, but there are still some problems. There's one local group that is trying to preserve an old India Temple building that has had a different facade on it since before I was born. The Oklahoma Historical Society has looked into it years ago and decided it wasn't worth preserving, and still believes it's not. A local Oil company took over the old Kerr Mcgee building and has plans to preserve an old Braniff building that is on the National Registry, but this group wants this other old building preserved. As I understand it had been gutted and a lot of the original facade is missing. There's just not a lot there to work with.

It's really easy to look at the old photos and say more of it should be preserved, but reality is that part of OKC was a canker for decades. The Myriad gardens are really nice and bricktown has become a decent area to visit. I hope they continue to work on cleaning up the downtown area even if it means destroying some of the older buildings which are just too far gone to make it worth rehabbing. Hell nothing made me appreciate the worth that has been done like moving to Tulsa where they still can't get their act together to make the downtown area somewhere worth visiting or doing business.

Interesting, if you click and travel either north on Walker or west on NW 11th from right there, the building is undergoing renovations, yet from the vantage point (intersection) you posted, business is in full swing there!
