Well I have been lurking here for a while now and thought I would post pictures of my 36 x 36 ongoing garage build. This has been my first ever building that I have built, I figure that I am now qualified to start the project.

Started the project in November 2004 by hauling in several loads of gravel for the pad and trying to get the thing square.

Yes it was a little muddy.

Received the metal delivery for the framing. Sure was a lot of money for just a little bit of metal.

I built it like a pole barn but out of metal. Set the poles as deep as I could get them with the tractor, about 4 feet. And a lot of concrete. We welded rebar ties to the post, not sure it will help but it was a good way to teach my helper how to weld. He was 11 years old then, he is now taller than I am and I am 6'5".

I see you started in '04. Are you concerned about the steel embedded in the concrete with the steel tube being hollow? I would think temperature differentials would let the tube sweat inside allowing for moisture buildup and rusting from the inside out. Or the steel against the concrete and reaction to it. I'm not sure, but kind of sounds like double trouble for rust.

I have not had any trouble yet, it is pretty thick tubing 1/4 if I remember right. If I had do overs I would pour a slab first then anchor the post to the slab.

I purchase the trusses and had to figure a way to hoist them up. Came up with a boom pole that attached to the front end loader. They went up pretty easy. Just had enough money for roof metal so that is the way it stayed for a little while. At least it got the trailers out of the weather.

Finally got 3 sides up, used the building to store horse hay, trailers and tractor in up until 2009.

Fast forward to summer 2009, we had thinned the horses down and I wanted to finish the building. Poured a slab inside the existing walls.

Started framing in the front, went with a 16' single garage door. This job seemed a lot harder than I remember it did 5 years ago.

Thank you, we are on 5 acres. Its almost too much to take care of and not enough to do anything with.

Since we don't have horses any more mowing has turned into a full time job.

Got the front finished and the garage door installed and struggled with how to insulate this thing. Ended up framing inside the metal with wood and using r13 fiberglass insulation then covering with OSB.

I am going to enclose 2 rooms on one side, one for the bathroom and the other for a storage room.

And then onto the ceiling.
