thanks, I am not sure if I should just clean it up and use as is or give it a new paint job

I'd say just clean and use. There does not seem to be any abuse on it...

So I am think that is thew way to go. I am going to dunk it in evapo-rust to treat the rust on the inside of the box. then , clean it up good. I am not sure if that is an original paint color. I have always though craftsman used red.

They had them in Blue Machinery Grey and hammered Grey's (At least) before the reds

That box is probably lat 40's or so assuming the paint is original. it looks the right shade,

I have a 6" keystone curved handle. Kinda nice for those tight jobs.
