Picked this mower up at an auction. Very heavy aluminum deck. Added some gas and it fired right up. Trying to get some info on it as I can't find anything out there searching. From the tag, looks like it is model #131.91236. I will need to try to find an air filter for it. The mower says to use filter part #62440.

The mfg. code makes it a Rally/Roper which became American yard products

Should be able to find parts for the motor itself fairly easily, you may have to get the model, code, spec, etc off the engine and visit your local dealer. It looks like a Tecumseh engine to me.

Can't confirm from the photos, but I had an aluminum deck Craftsman with a Tecumseh engine. It was a great mower; very light and maneuverable. I wish I'd kept it and spent a few bucks welding a crack and a chip in the deck skirt.

The Tecumseh wind-up starter was always failing, so it was replaced with a typical pull-cord recoil. Also was always hard to start, even after rebuilding the carb.

We had a similar one when I was a kid. About 1967 IIRC. My buddy's wife still uses a mower with that style deck today .... it's on its second engine, though.

Whatever you do, stay away from ethanol fuel otherwise it will eat up that vintage carb. Find yourself a gas station that sells 100% gasoline.

You have a great mower. Take care of it.

Can't stress this enough! Non-ethanol premium is often hard to find here in Oregon, but is available. If you can't find a station, you can try looking up Sunoco dealers in your area.

AYP is owned by Husqvarna. There is a post that takes you through the mergers, acquisitions and spin offs of the outdoor equipment companies. It breaks down who owns what and who makes for whom. In a number of cases, the brand on the product is not who made it at all. Sorry, I lost the link.

Yep, looks very similar to the one I was intimate terms with from about 1968. For some reason, I thought the deck was magnesium. Be careful about trying to weld that! :willy_nil

It worked very well, but that pull style was a weak link, as was mentioned.

I can't speak about the carb on the OP's mower, but I have an old Jacobsen mower of similar vintage with a Briggs motor on it. My mower doesn't seem to be affected at all by e10 gas, I think because the carburetor is so simple - unlike modern small engines, the carb has hardly any parts to it, no rubber diaphragms or anything like that. I suspect his carburetor is similar.

for sure looks like tecumseh motor. Had a couple of older sears mowers run good for there age. Usually old gas, carb adjust, and new plug will fix. Deck looks legit thou

Neat mower. I like the wood dowel rod pull start handle.

I use Stabil in all my 5-gallon cans that I fill up with swill from the pumps. Knock on wood no issue in any of my gas tools. Gasohol here 10%.
