A few weeks ago I found an old Atlas Drill Press in a barn, burried in junk, at an Estate Sale. I purchased it along with a huge lot of other tools and machines. This is something I do often as I sell on Ebay in order to fund my tool addiction along with all kinds of other interests.
I have attached pictures of before and after.
Other than cleaning and painting the drill press it required, wiring, replacing quill feed shaft (the gear had a bad tooth), adding a new 5/8" JT33 Chuck, drive belt, and fabricating a cover for the quill return spring assembly. The drill press still needs a cover for the spindle drive shaft on top, I will make that soon. The table has many mistake holes started in it, not much I can do about that. The table is so heavy duty that I don't think it will be a problem.
Removing the mast from the base on this old drill press was extremely challenging and was by far the most difficult part.

Anyway, this drill press is now valued addition to my shop and ready to go:thumbup:

Very nice piece, those are "character marks" on the table. I think the drill press was the first new tool I bought after building my garage as it really is a must have tool.

Millsrv, a nice machine with excellent results. At the risk of telling you what you already know, I've had good luck filling drill marks with JB Weld. Clean up the hole to remove oil, fill, sand and scrape level with the table surface. It blends nicely with the cost iron and is an inexpensive repair.

Thanks Tom, That idea occurred to me but now after hearing it from you I think I will try it, what is there to lose except some JB Weld?
Thanks much,
Jim
