hehe, I know this forum is for GARAGE'S,....but, does a shed count if I say that tools,....will be in it ?
I'm wanting to build a shed in our back yard next to our pond. It will be for the garden and a space for my wood working tools. We've always wanted to build a log cabin type, and still may but, after seeing a very small, "old barn wood" shed were trying to make up our mind now. I checked into this barn wood and found that many people are dismanteling old barns that are falling, or fallen down and taking the siding, and structural members and either building a new barn out of the wood or making floors, funiture for holme's ect.
A lot of these barns are from the 1,800 period and have cool dove joints, mortis & tenon's, made from old growth oak, maple, elm, pine, ash, hickory, walnut, chestnut.
All of this is called "Reclaimed Wood" or "Recycled Wood".
The siding is apx. $1.00 per sq.ft, the timbers, beams, ect. are $2.00-$4.50 per board ft. The cost is the question between this cool 100-500 year old growth trees, or build it with new lumber ?
It must have a front door entry, barn doors on the right side, front porch with a over hang roof, and maybe carried over to the left side, for chairs to sit and watch the pond. And proberly one ot two front windows and one on the left side. It also has to be water proof.
It's hard to say for me, on what the barn shed will cost. I will attach several photo's to show what were after. Some are too small and others that are actually children play house's. These are just,...ideas.
Any advise and ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
Kevin
Made with barn wood- (not sealed for weather)
Just the style-
Nice vertical wood like barns-
Very nice, very $$$-
One of the barns wood I'm looking at. Most people just use a power washer to clean up the wood, leave the saw mill marks and nail holes for that charmed,....look.
Old forged strap hinges-
True 2x8 beams, 4x5, 6x6 posts-
I need to take another photo of this since I took it down. It's a old forged pulley that was used to hall up hay bailes to the loft. All of the wheels turn freely ! It's cool !
Some old lumber turned into beautiful floors ect.
What a example of what can be done.
