Old battery charger

Have an older charger that needs new cables
Is it possible to get a set of jumper cables (same wire gauge as charger) and put them on
Haven’t took cover off yet to see what’s what
Charger still works great. Thanks

yes. the current cables probably have a eye crimped on the other end inside the charger that mount to a stud.

Yes, you could do that but I wouldn't recommend it. Most jumper cables are pair sheaths so if that's what you have you have to peel or cut them apart. In my experience going either way they will start cracking sooner or later.

A better option would be hitting up a welding supplier or a good auto parts store for some clean, new, same guage cables. I'd also open the back up first to see how those original cables are connected. Might be lugs on the cable ends, might be clamped. Best to see first so if you need extra parts you can get it all at once.

^^^^^. That's what I would do, I rubber type insulation on welding cables are way more durable than the average boosters. Plus than you can make them as long as you want. They always seem to short anyway. BCD.

IMHO welding lead sounds like a very fine option.

It's only a mid-grade charger, put some jumper cables on it and be done. Welding cable would be best but quite pricey. BTDT.

Thats funny . . . . I have the same exact charger at the shop and I am getting ready to do the same exact thing to mine except mine needs a new power cord too. I dont use it much any more, mainly to charge the battery on my small fork lift.

I found a set of cables online
Because I have part numbers for everything
They have lost their mind for the cables price wise
Each end of the cable has lugs
It calls for4awg stranded
Is there a special crimper for that size wire
If it is I would have to buy one
I guess the best route is to buy the clamps and some welder wire or Just get the wire from Lowes

I have had mine since at least 1987 and it was old when I got it. They have lost their minds on those cable prices. I am just going to get a decent set of jumper cables and a good extension cord from Home Depot to make the power cord out of. You can get the end lugs almost anywhere.

It will probably be fine because it doesn’t get used very often

Some of the battery chargers have rivets,so maybe a #30 drill bit to enable to gain entry,with sheet metal screws holding it closed.

No different than what is on the charger from the factory. Jumper cables are what I am going to use.

I’m gonna price both. If it’s not a whole lot of difference I’ll probably go with the welding wire only because of a Ut video I watched where the guy said 4 gauge welder wire had more strands in it

If you want to fuss over it then buy new, if you want to use it then fix it with what you can find. I put some off an old jump pack on mine, needed to use it when I fix it and get rid of old stuff at the same time. Added some to the cord when I replaced it, lots of places it saves getting another cord.

Charger is back in action
2 8’ welder wire
2 deka clamps
1 9’ power cord from Home Depot
$45 for everything
Only problem now is I don’t have a battery that needs charging. Lol
I guess that’s a good thing
