I just got my hands on a blade guard for my old model 77, but I don't know how to install it? I cannot remove the threaded part that the guard connects to.
I tried threading the guard onto the threaded shaft, but I can only get a half a turn. Please, any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Ever resolve this? I have an old blue label 825 same issue. If you figured it out could you please help me out?

My Ace hardware has random brush sized in the misc nuts and bolts section. Drag the saw in, if no exact fit, go to next biggest, and file to fit. Make sure the back end will work before you buy.

@BreeStephany

Do you happen to have the size for replacement brushes?

I have a blue label 77 that needs brushes, there are no brushes in the saw.
The brushes should be standard 1845 brushes which are 0.250" x 0.500" x 0.750" with a 1.5" spring lead. The spring diameter should be 0.313". You can source the brushes through Eurton pretty easily!

I'm sure you figured it out by now, as this post was from 9 years ago, but just wanted to give my two cents on the assembly / disassembly of the blade guards on the older 'blue label' saws.

The guards, as you stated are threaded onto a swivel point and can often times be quite difficult to remove and to thread back into a new guard. On a lot of the older saws, you will often see stress cracks around the threads where the guard began to crack over time around the threads. As the threaded portion of the guard cracks, it often allows the guard to tighten harder around the threaded portion of the guard assembly, often times making disassembly very difficult and making reassembly even more difficult as the threads often distort over time and no longer match the factory threads.

Often times during reassembly, I will use thread marking paint on the threads to see where exactly the threads are binding up and then do my best to reform / file those spots in the threads back to a more original state.

The guards, I have found to be one of the bigger pains of disassembly / reassembly of these saws, while everything else is pretty straight forward.

Just my two cents.
