Picked this up at an estate sale this weekend.
I'll need to sharpen the blades, but initial tests show that this thing still cuts great, it's just a bit too low.
Does anyone know if there's a way to raise the cutting height?

Does the position of the roller change the height? Its been so long since I've seen one I can't remember. You might be able to find an operators manual somewhere.

I have bad memories of these things from my youth. When the gasoline powered mower was broken, that is what we had to use. I have actually considered getting one now, as they should give you a healthier lawn with the cleaner cut they give. Plus, I could really use the excercise. But, I am usually pressed for time when I cut, fighting sunset, and those reel mowers don't mulch anyway.

Going through 10 missed pages..........

Picture number 2, on the right side. It appears to have holes, so I bet the roller, unbolts, and moves up. The older reel mowers, were meant for lower growing grasses. Newer ones (I picked up a newer reel Craftsman at a garage sale for $10 a couple years ago), tend to go UP to 2 1/2" tall. (bluegrass height, not tall fescue height)

I finally got around to messing with this over the weekend. I was able to raise the roller about 1" (maxed out), but I couldn't tell any difference in how it cut the grass though. It's still cuts way too short for our lawn and like Major said it doesn't mulch, just sends grass flying all over the place. You can't be in a hurry mowing with one of these!
