Just got this today at a yardsale .. ($12 )

The only markings I can find are on the cast iron arch... JR 50 .
Just curious how old it might be.
And it looks like it was setup with a vbelt drive of an electric motor.. Any ideas what hp. it would take to run it ?

In the UK most of the ones that size had a single cylinder diesel engine. They had an inertial starter where you wound up a flywheel by manpower similar to a Panzer tank. Knew a gal who was probably 90lb dripping wet who would just grab the bowl & spin it by hand to bump start the diesel.

I have to give the wheel a spin as I start the motor but then it’ll mix an 80lb bag.

I have a good motor and plan to someday fix it up and swap the motor, but it just keeps going and going. It mixed a couple hundred bags last year.

When I worked in Alaska, I got to know a lady named June Thiel. She was barely 5 feet tall, slender, and couldn't have weighed 90 lbs. dripping wet. One day she was loading 5 gallon Jeep cans of gasoline into the cabin of her floatplane on Lake Hood at Anchorage. A FAA safety inspector came up to her and started yelling at her about how it was unsafe to carry canned gasoline in the cabin of an airplane, and that it was illegal. She ignored him, which made him even angrier and threatening. June picked up the last two cans, swung them around, and knocked the man off the dock into the lake. She then put the cans in the plane, untied it, taxied out, and took off. The Inspector had to swim to a place where he could crawl out of the lake and rescue himself. He didn't press any charges, nor did he write her a citation for the violation of FAA rules. I think he was too intimidated!
