You struck gold if you purchased this pump for $50… I rebuild air compressor pumps professionally, focusing on Champion, Kellogg-American, and Quincy products. Those are the only three brands that will outlive my children and have readily available parts if needed. Your REN-7 should need minimal repair to get it running in top form again. Remove the four manifolds to access and remove the valve bodies. Undo the bolts that hold the cylinder head to gain access to the pistons.
The valve bodies may be rusty and perhaps pitted, but sandpaper will clean them up and get the faces in like-new condition. You could lap the valves themselves and not need to purchase a new set, but the valve springs will need replacing. The pistons and the cylinder head are almost always in good condition, no matter how long the pump has been out of use. The cylinder walls will need re-hatching (using a 3-stone hone, not a “bottle” or flex hone), and the pistons will need new rings. The main bearings and oil seals might need replacing, but those parts are readily available and not too expensive.
Pacific Air Compressors stocks repair parts and kits for the REN-7. If you have any questions, Cary Laing is an excellent resource. The Champion “R” Series pumps were designed right, so there is little difference between models. I attached a link to a service manual for a Champion REN-10, the parts diagram being sufficient to help you disassemble, repair, and maintain your unit. The Champion company is always helpful and should be able to provide you with the manuals specific to the REN-7.
