I'm rebuilding an old Chicago Pneumatic CP734 impact wrench. This model has the anvil and pins isolated in the front of the wrench from the air motor in the back of the wrench. Does anyone know what grade/type of oil to put in there and also how much? Thanks for your help.

The recommended oil for the CP 734 is 30W non-detergent. I think the amount is 4 oz. or about 1/2 full.

I have rebuilt over a hundred of these over the years and haven’t seen any difference of oils working better than others so I just use what I have in my Oiler on the bench which is 10 30 right now and like listed before laying on its side half way in case and it will bleed out what it doesn’t want through the valve in air motor rotor

The anvil etc.. itself gets grease im sure, it does in my impacts anyway. I use ATF for the air inlet.

Thanks everyone for the replies. This wrench had oil in it. Not very much but it was oil. One other question I have Non-Detergent oil vs Detergent oil. Is one better than the other for impact wrenches? Would detergent oil foam up in the wrench thus the requirement for non-detergent oil? TIA for your help.

I have this same impact gun. I was unaware that they offered rebuild parts for it. Where did you find the parts?

As I said before some oil in there is better than non as most of the wrenches I take apart have no oil left in them as most people do not maintain their tools

Every part for a CP 734 or 734 H is available and don't see them going away any time soon. The older 734 even has aftermarket parts and part kits available, I have never used aftermarket parts in them but they are out there for sure. Before you repair them make sure of all the parts you need and price them because they can really add up as some are pricey.
