Old clothes dryer - Start button bad ?

Old clothes dryer fine for years, today will not "start"

Start button allasudden feels funny when pressed.

Not like before, feels different today, ... and makes nothing happen.


Is it just typically a momentary NO push button in itself?

So, to check if button is bad one can momentarily flash jumper across to start dryer ?


Relative having problem.. remote from me, fixing over phone.

do you have a pic of the switch? there must be so many variations that it would be impossible to advise without some more info.

No pic, but I just want to confirm it typically SPST NO momentary.. then will go from there.

The horn button I used is a NO switch.

Can you get a model number ? You can probably still get the correct switch from any of the many online parts sources. Without having a circuit diagram you are playing with safety by putting any old switch in it.

The Sears appliance parts stores (usually near the mall areas) used to carry parts for just about all of the older equipment, but I don't know if that has changed after the Sears financial problems. They also had an online parts store.

If you just put the brand and model number into Google and ask for repair parts, an online parts store will show up in the response.

Chances are it is, but you really need to remove it and take a look. Once you have it in hand finding a replacement will be a lot easier than people guessing here.

Have not gotten that yet, relative pretty elderly, everything is no longer simple for them.

Also verify that the interlock switches are functioning. You can jump the the start pb if needed to prove the point.

planning on opening panel, confirming expect to see two wires, remove wires, test button momentary continity w VOM, if all like I expect that button is bad..then flash wires.. should start dryer.

Going in a bit here.

Went and looked.. switch is more complex than expected... not only an SPST NO to start dryer, but also integral rotary switch for buzzer and an internal latching relay.

Just ordering a new one... $35 shipped.

Old appliances are best... none of this $600 brain board ****.

Actually, short of popping the $35... I took the switch apart again, cleaned a number of things, checked w VOM.. worked consistently.. (did NOT before i dug into it) replaced it in dryer... and it seems to work just fine.

So, time will tell.

No $ spent is always good !!!
