Recently bought an old starret combination square. Has a little rust but still can read the graduations. Nothing some steel wool can fix. Anyhow my question is after my cleaning job I don't want more rust to form. From condensation! What does every one else do ? Spray it with silicone? Oil it?

Wax...floor wax. Protects unplated tools well, doesn't evaporate, doesn't get oil all over when you use the tool.

Do not spray it with silicone if you ever want to use it to make marks on wood. You will get blotchy results when you stain it later.

This.
Be careful oiling any tools used in woodworking. Nothing like ruining several hours work because your tool got oil or silicone on a board rendering unstainable.

Get yourself a yellow can of Johnson's paste wax. It'll last you a long, long, time.
