old compresssor value?

a old friend has a old upright 100 gal I.R. compressor with a 5 horse elec motor, the pump is soon to be history. he is looking for 400 bucks out of it. is this worth it?

Without more details... NO.

I take "pump is soon to be history" as.... Pump is worn and will need a rebuild. So basically you are purchasing a tank and motor. Also double check the size on that tank. 100g vertical is not a common size to my knowledge. Probably an older T30 pump. Good pumps, but parts can add up real quick.

yeah, the pump knocks. he thinks it is 100 gallon, the tank is 3, 3 1/2 feet around and 6 foot high. he maintains his shop very thoroughly, so the tank was drained daily
