Old Concrete Prep Prior to FreeFlow or RibTrax

Hello all, great site!

I've decided I want a flow-through tiles for my garage. I have a four car, but will only be covering three stalls with the tiles, as the fourth is perpendicular to the other three and is used for shop space. The concrete has never been finished, and is 23 years old, well etched from decades of salt and other use. In good normal use condition. It holds dust and debris due to the rough surface, so I'm wondering if painting or other sealing of the concrete surface would be worth it when it in terms of general cleanliness and ease of cleaning the once or twice per year I'd pull the floor to clean under it. Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated.

Putting down a densifier and sealer would be a great idea. Happy to put together a package deal for you on flow through

Like a Lithi-Tek 9500, or Lithi-Tek 4500 + Siloxa-Tek 8510? Is that a better option than garage floor paint?

If you do not have freeze thaw and road salts 9500 would be ok

4500 alone also ok

4500 + 8510 is killer

Not to hijack but (what I think is) a simple question:

If you (I) live in a place where there's no snow - like Southern California - and I don't intend to ever wash vehicles inside my garage, why would anyone want flow through style floor tiles? Wouldn't it just be a dust and dirt catcher?

When it rains and you pull your vehicle in the garage, the water will drip through the tiles instead of pooling on top. Pools of runoff water was no fun with an epoxy floor.

I have landscape fabric under my freeflow tiles, which helps spread out water that has seeped through and give the moisture more surface area to evaporate.

It never rains in Southern California. So true that they wrote a hit song about it.

But even when it does, I likely wouldn't pull my car inside while wet.

PS: How often do you guys that have it have to pull up the tiles to mop out the mud or grit that comes off with the rain water?

My Free Flow went down over the 38 year old concrete. Only prep I did was a sweeping and scrubbing. No underlayment. Her DD drags in ice, snow, slush, rain and grit. Cleans easily. No problems or complainants. Wouldn't change a thing. CJDave.
