I really like how you found a creative way to have a place to work on vehicles, without building or buying a shop!

I really like how you are painting everything the same colour, it makes it all look nice and matching! Amazing what a difference a little work, and paint can do!

I also like how you are finding a lot of cabinets and stuff used, and for free!

I am going to subscribe to your thread so that I can see all the updates! Sean

I really like how all the other stalls in the courtyard got rented out too. I hope they're all Gearheads! As someone said before, there would be some Carnut keg parties in the courtyard for sure! Love the thread!

Thanks guys, glad you all like my shed!

Nothing much new, but I managed to get the oven up and running.

Installed a new-ish pipe that my land lord had lying around, found a cover for the front and it works and heats really well! Ready for the cold season, winter is coming!

The oven already proved very useful as it makes the barn warm enough for painting, even when it's cold outside!

Neithr wood nor gas actually. It runs on oil! My landlord was kind enough to supply me with two full 200 liter barrels of the stuff, so I'm all set for the foreseeable future!:eyecrazy:

I am currently in the process of re-organising some things, as I'm currently making kind of a shift in interest to wheel refurbing.

When I built the set of wheels for my E39, I discovered that I found this to be incredibly fun.

I want to do more stuff like this, buy tired old wheels and refurb them to flip them. In fact, I just picked up another set of RH ZW1 for cheap.

img_7442oez6d.jpg

So currently I'm doing some re-organising in the shop and making plans to build a small spraybooth for wheels and also thinking of maybe setting up some kind of motor to get the wheels to spin so polishing them gets easier and faster.

Will update when I get around to doing some work that is picture worthy!

Thanks guys!

Not much news yet... well, there is a bit.

First off a few days ago I came into the shop and discovered this:

halle_bla2azdef.jpg

My reaction was pretty much, as I was already envisioning expensive repairs or a expensive new oven.

the-office-gif.gif

Then I remembered... hey, that oven... it's actually not mine, but my landlord's and he let me use it. FIX IT, MR. LANDLORD, PRETTY PLEASE.

But I still had a look at it was this connection that was leaking. My landlord came over and replaced the connection and the oven ran fine for a single time... then the oil stopped running altogether, so now he's taken it over to his own shop to take it apart and have a deeper look at it. If all else fails, he has another old oven in his basement that I could use. Eagerly awaiting news on this.

Apart from that, my landlord was going to throw away this old kitchen desk... being the stingy ******* that I am, I once again saw potential in another man's trash and asked if I could have it... this will, once I get around to building it, make the base for a wheel spray booth. The black thingie placed on it is actually the start for a wheel stand for painting where the wheel will be able to rotate to make it easier to get an even coat of spray. It was obviously the first prototype and the small wheel on top has now been replaced with a bigger unit which comfortable holds a wheel. Still need to fab something up to center the wheel... maybe more on this later.

What you can also see in the pic is that my 4.5 inch rear lips also came in, woohoo!

img_7721ftzi2.jpg

To continue with the wheel build, I've been polishing the old bolts which I'm going to reuse. Still not entirely done with this.

And apart from that, I've mostly been cleaning out the shop, i.E. gathering all the old parts sitting around that I don't need and throwing them on ebay to win back some room again. Especially as I just lost some room again as I've agreed to store my cousin's car temporarily as there's some issues with registering it due to some problems with the paperwork. I hope this get's resolved soon... the things you do for family, heh.

Apart from that, not much else has happened, but I figured I might give you a small update just to keep you on top of things.

Heater has been fixed for a few weeks now and is working better than ever, even when we had snow out it was pleasantly warm inside!

Today I got some work done and cobbled together a small spray booth for painting wheels and other small stuff. Will be ordering a entry level spray gun soon, mostly for spraying clear as the real 2-components clear you can get in a rattle can is quite expensive.

It's not 100% done yet, I will take better pics once I'm done.
Got the desk for free a while ago from my landlord who was going to throw it away. Rest of the material was 35€ in the hardware store today, so not too bad.

The stand the wheel sits upon is something my dad cobbled together for me, welded together out of some left over metal profiles with a wheel from a small cart on top, which enables the wheel to spin freely for a few minutes. However, it's a bit too small and the wheel sits a bit wobbly and I need to swap it out for a bigger one, which I already have sitting around.

In the end it should work like this, only with a box around it:

felgenboxvpssf.jpg

Also have a light sitting here which I will install inside... the front will be closes up, maybe with a vinyl tarp stretched over it. Just something to keep the dust out, you know. After I've done a few tests I'll decide wether I'll need to add a fan or not.

I will also be adding wheels to the table to be able to move it around the shop without hassle.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering... that black set of wheels? Now looks like this.

So it was high time to build the spray booth as I need to respray these soon!

Done with the spray booth, for now!

It's very simple, but it does the job... painted the first wheel today and it seems to work like I intended... tomorrow I'll see if it provides any meaningful dust protection.

It can now be closed up...

spraybox3d9u41.jpg

It's just a piece of cheap car protection tarp cut to size and fixed in place with some thick nails which I just stick in some holes I've drilled.

Hung a quick holder for the nails as well.

spraybox2zsu5v.jpg

And I finally got to use one of those little lights I had kicking around!

spraybox4v4u2w.jpg

And just for kicks, here's a pic of a wheel spinning...

spraybox5cvu7v.jpg

The wheel stand needs some more improving, though. I need to replace the bolt that holds in the turning plate with a longer piece of threaded rod so I can slide a cone over that and use it to firmly secure the wheel.

Nice makeover! I'm bit surprised seeing your trolley jacks. I'm having hard time to stuff a similar one under my stock s80 and any of your cars looks high.

Only just found this thread, cool garage you have there Bastien. I also have a black E36 Touring (95) mine's a 320i. Lovely cars although mine's a bit tatty. It's my daily though so I'm not too precious about it. Also have a 97 318is coupe which is my modern toy.

I think I've read your posts on Retro-rides.org?

Yeah, it's a bit annoying but I'm too cheap to spring for a extra flat jack and I dislike scissor jacks. I usually just drive onto a few blocks of wood until I can stuff the jack under.

Yeah, the E36s are great dailys. I used to have a 320 sedan before I bought my Touring and my Touring was my daily for a few years as well. A friend had a 318is once too, surprisingly quick for a 4-cyl in the rather heavy E36, could keep up quite well with my 323i.

And yeah, I occasionally post on Retro Rides, but I'm more of a reader over there (like I am here). Mostly you'll find me semi-actively posting on Stanceworks, Bimmerforums and The Carlounge, though.

As for the shop, not much has happened, mostly due to being a bit tight with money at the moment due to a bout of unemployedness... but landed a new job recently which I'll start on monday, so things are looking up and I'll finally be able to spend some more on the shop and the cars again.

On another note, the tenant of the single car garage next to my shop left and a week ago a good friend of mine took it over. Should be just enough space to fit his Mercedes 190E inside along with a small work bench. We're also thinking about maybe buying some bigger stuff together... and we also approached the landlord about maybe fixing up the upper section of the barn as we might be interested in renting that too for storage and a lounge to rest. He was open to the idea, but it's nothing concrete yet, but I think this will happen in the future for sure. :)
