I know there's a million threads out there about vintage tool boxes and logos and everything... but, I picked up an old craftsman machinist box from the fleemarket. From what i've read about these, they're rebadged kennedy boxes. Looks like a 520 series. It was filled with taps, unground lathe bits, drill bits, countersinks, carbide burrs... and miscellaneous stuff. Got it for a hundred beans. I found it to be a good deal just for the contents.
I know it's a bad picture, but what year do you think its from? My guess is late 30's or 40's...? It seems like everythings wood, except for the drawers. Theres a center lock, one on either side of the main latch, then 2 on the outsides as well. The handle is made of what looks like leather. Think I got a good deal? I can get better pictures if needed.

Awesome deal! (Yes, please post better pictures.)

I think the box is 1943-1947.

I've wanted a machinists too box for a while. I had just bought a dial indicator, bore gauge, thick feeler gauges a few rulers and small screw drivers at another tent then walked by this box. I knew it was meant to be. Heres a few more pictures.

It looks like a Gerstner as much as a Kennedy-- the diamond mirror on the inside lid is a giveaway, as well as the wooden components (Kennedy has been all metal, AFAIK).

Gerstner supplied latches for Kennedy, I know that much. And I just did a thread on my own older Kennedy 520, so there's no shortage of curious folks out there....nice price at the fleamarket.

What's the mirror for - touching up yer makeup? :D

Cool old box!

Back before common safety glass practice, that mirror was good for helping to see and picking out a piece of sawdust, metal shaving or blob of greese/dirt that lands in one's eye.
