Anyone have any idea to the age of one of these old craftsman boxes? The picture is one I google image searched but my dad has a box identical to it. Do these things have any worth to them?

60's to early 70's I believe.

Longer than that. To the mid-70s at least, maybe even late-70s. Some minor differences exist, such as placement of the drawer pulls, and the style of the side handles and the side panels of the boxes and cabinets.

Date codes can be found inside the top till of the chests, usually toward the left, and on the lower front or side of the roller cabinets.

The one in the photo is more likely 70s vintage than earlier.

Condition is everything, but some of us believe those were the best boxes and cabinets Sears ever offered, as long as you stay within the limits of the friction slides.

My dad's is a little rougher than the one shown but very close to that. He has given me the box. I don't want to get rid of it. It seems like a good box. Doesn't roll around the best but all the drawers slide just fine. I plan on stripping it down and giving it a good greasing and cleaning.

To give an idea on value, it's probably worth around $200. I had one just recently that was dated 1970. That one had the date stamped on the front at the bottom. It didn't have as many drawers, but was in good condition. I sold it for less than $200, but might have been able to get more if I waited it out.

Casters would be an easy upgrade.

:+1: X 100! check for hidden structural, damage but they don't get much better for a friction slide set, and surpasses many ball being slide boxes...

I agree on principal, but If I really needed a box, I'd go even $300 if I had to...

But I don't have to...

I'll agree with 70's, the bottom of the line set-up; six drawer chest, three drawer bottom with cabinet, was my first purchase. Real proud of it. Still looks like new except I backed over the tool tray years ago, bummer.
