Old Craftsman Tool Box

This is my first post. I paid $2 for this old tool box. Since I had never seen a Craftsman tool box with a leather cover, I had to have it. I have been looking and can't find any info on it. The following pics were taken with my phone towards dusk and aren't the best.
I believe it has a barrel lock.

Please feel free to let me know if anything about my post was done wrong. Once again this is my first post.

Anyone find one of these before?? Is this a possible custom job by a mechanic?

Looks to me like an old school machinist tool box. Nice score, and welcome.

Hi there and welcome, Nice tool box. My guess is 1950's maybe late 40's. I have a similar 1/4" drive set W/ box with very similar style writing. That style is like an old watch face (numbers) later boxes went to an aluminum tag, there are a few different ones.
I love old Craftsman stuff, I suggest cleaning the box with simple green and a plastic bristle brush, DO NOT SCRUB THE LETTERS YOU WILL SCRUB THEM OFF a very light pat on them and call it done. do not blast it with the hose, if there are any chips in the finish you will start lifting the finish in that area. I posted a few boxes for you to check out. The grey top box is my favorite, I am always searching for the bottom rollaway that matches. i say yours dates mine and mine is 52-55?

I can not tell about the paint your pictures are pretty blurry, drawers look OEM
