wrenchr,

Very nice indeed! It has my favorite Craftsman logo on it.

When these were made, plastic likely hadn't been invented/prefected yet.

All he needs now is a set of vintage Craftsman to go in it and a 57 Chevy with a 454 and a rock crusher.

Got one just like it. It was my dad's, who bought it back in the 50's. His vintage open ends were stolen, so I've got current issue stocking it now. But since I'm the only guy on the planet who still uses open ends, nobody knows the difference. Wish I could find one for metrics. Probably too much to ask. They hadn't been invented yet either.

Cool find wrenchr!
These have been one of my favorite pieces to collect. I think I have them all now. At first I didn't understand there were five different racks, but when I tried to make sense of the printed size markings, I realized that there were different racks for Combos, Double Opens and Double Boxes. It took some time finding the 19/32 x 25/32 Double Box for the 11 piece rack.

Wow...I've never had tool envy before, but that is prolly one of the coolest things I've seen tool-wise. Vintage tools that aren't just collected, but used! :D

What year is the Craftsman Catalog page from?
I can never find old stuff like this out west. It must be buried in the midwest or northeast. I like to see working tools displayed like that. I just don't care for the whole never used, highly polished, prom queen look often referred to as the Merkava style.

The racks are in the 1954 catalog as well...

...but drop out by the 1960 catalog, in favor of just the plastic pouch with the crown motif logo:

jpilgrim, that's very nice, what you've got. Do you even have the series codes all matching?

I think I do. But I'm not too invested in it. :)

The racks are mostly full of =V=, with a couple =VV= on the larger double-opens. But =V= spans several decades, and the racks might originate from before =V= or at least =V= without part number.

The combos are my grandpas, and from the early 60s. I still have his plastic pouch with he crown-style logo.
The double box are from the 40s-60s. Some are pre =V= and some are =V=.
The double open are from the 60s-current period.

My Dad had one of them also, it was left in the tool room in the machine shed, along with several one quart GLASS oil bottles, when he sold out in 1968, and we moved to South Texas.
So many things, I regret not keeping, but who knew?

No, you are not the ONLY one! They are my prefered wrench.

Fill it up with these...
Just saw fleabay auction # 130305732175.
I love this style double box (and consequently have many more than I need!)
FWIW the auction isn't mine or anyone known to me, I seem to just buy 'em and never sell.
