Old cup dolly rehab

I upgraded my pretty useless cup dollies to something better, but the old ones were small, cast iron, with steel wheels and maybe better for small things in limited space, but don't work well.

The swivel bearings look corroded and I doubt there's any bearing material in the wheels. Would the whole assembly just push out from the top and come apart? I'm not sure just pushing grease in the swivel bearings is enough with the corrosion.

Anyone take these apart? Any tricks to it?

Thanks,
Rich

I fear you need to grind off the peening on the top of the shaft to get the bearings apart. Then figure out a way to reattach them. Those suckers carry a lot of weight. My millwrights at work bring 2-3 sets of those in for many jobs requiring tight corners be navigated.

If they were mine I would submerge and soak the whole dolly in white vinegar for a couple of days, blow it out with compressed air, then pack the swivel bearings with grease and oil the wheel axles. Load something weighing a few hundred pounds on them and give them a maneuvering workout.

If you use the vinegar, make sure to rinse it thoroughly. Even a small amount trapped in a hidden pocket will eat away at the metal.
