Old Delta Drill press?

So I took a chance and bought this of CL for $60, it all works, though the quill travel back up is a bit rough. Don't have a chuck key for it either which leads me to my question. From looking online it looks like many Delta DPs from the 40s, but haven't found one that is quite the same, there are no markings other than various DP part numbers on the components. I need to get a chuck key, and none of my many are the right size, and I would love to know more about it.

Obviously it's missing the front belt guard too. That could be a Delta Homecraft DP. Nice little almost indestructible drill presses. How's the table? Congrats on the find!

Yes, front belt guard is missing, I'll try my skills at tin smithing and see if I can come up with something suitable. Table is not in too bad of shape.

Forgot to note that the head casting says DP 400, but that number seams to bring up a much newer Delta DP

Probably a 1/2" chuck. Measure the side hole in the chuck. It is probably 1/4" or 9/32. Check out lowes. They sell them and call out the side hole

Is there a casting date on the underside of the table, and a model #?

Looking at that serial # it appears to be an early '40s drill press. If that serial no tag is legit. Delta started recording their serial #s in 1941 with 13-0000. I'd bet someone will come along here who knows the story. You can always post it on OWWM. Great site and a great resource for OWWM (Old WoodWorking Machines) and OMWM (Old MetalWorking Machines). You'll also want to join vintagemachinery.org. Old publications of manuals, the delta serial # listings are there. Another great resource.

So after two days of searching and crawling through forums it appears that I have a 645-Triple-Duty-11-Inch-Drill-Press. I even found a manual for it. What threw me off so much was the fact that it was retro fitted to be a floor model (I thought that the base was awful small for it). So I guess I am going to mount it to some plywood and then screw that to the floor of the shop. Thanks for all the help guys!

Sorry I'm late to the party. Yes, definitely a 645, somewhat uncommon, only made for a couple years. Discontinued when they came out with the Homecraft 11" drill press. The Homecraft did away with the tilting table, and uses bronze bushings instead of bearings. I have a couple 645's, one real nice one, and another incomplete one I'll probably end up parting out. Interesting hat yours has a Walker Turner motor.

The guy I bought it off was a third generation farmer, and was a self professed "cobber". He said that the motor was the second one to be on it and couldn't recall where he scavenged the motor from. The base and motor mount plate were both very rusty and I used some Eastwood rust converter and undercoating on, the paint is still intact on most of the rest of it and I really don't feel like cleaning it up enough to paint it as I need it for some things I am working on. Maybe I'll tear it down and do a restore on it over the winter.
