Old Dewalt 4 1/2 grinder Question

I have 30 year old Dewalt 4 1/2 grinders that I have just used a cut off wheel on for the first time. I had to replace the backing cup with a Dewalt backing flange for the cut off wheel. I was wondering, should I now use the backing flange on grinding disks or should I go back to the backing cup?

Use the flange.... I have 6 or 7 older B&D/DeWalt grinders and have changed all to the flange.... I have also changed all of the nuts to the spanner type and thrown away the hex type nuts.....
