That was how the early electronic digital models looked. They were bulky, had poor balance, and were so delicate that nobody outside inspection used them for fear of dirt/coolant rendering them unusable. They were the new gadget to have, the next coming wave of technology, and had no real advantage over existing mechanical instruments. IIRC they didn't even have SPC data to download until a generation/version later. Never liked B&S calipers, even the analog ones. Cool finding an early digital model.
