Picked this old 8" 3/4 HP up yesterday. Wheels don't spin well by hand. I hear some scraping or something inside the right side. Still has a long run down time which I thought weird.

Anyone done one of these? 3 jaw puller and something to drive the new bearing on is all I need, right?

There is a debate about spin-down after the grinder is shut off. Many feel that long spin downs indicate that the bearings are in good condition and the grinder is well balanced. Others feel that the bearings are dry and need to be replaced or regreased.

The grinding noise indicates that the bearings need to be replaced.

Here is a photo I took when I restored a 7" Doerr grinder. I believe I used a 3 jaw puller to remove bearings.
