Can it be changed to a drill press ?

That is a buffalo forge 15 inch drill press. It has a tapping attachment with a foot actuator on it. Yes you can take the tapping head off and use it as a regular drill press. You will need to buy a chuck. You could most likely sell the tapping head for almost the cost of the press.

It's worth more complete. Cleaned up and marketed correctly, it should be worth a minimum of $350 and that would buy an excellent home shop DP ready to work.

Mel: welcome to GJ first of all and happy to have another member join that likes vintage tools. if i had the space i'd spiff that up and keep it like it is. you can buy old drill presses like that spiffed up for $300-500, but with your eye and if you are a little handy they come up needing a little work for around $100-150 pretty often.

good luck and ask questions if you have any or post up more pictures. how does it run and have you tried using it yet?

X2 on the above. That is a regular drill press with tapping head on it. You killed on that price.

On second look that does not have a hand feed on it so it may have been sold as a tapping machine. It may not have a rack gear on the quill and have to be kept as a foot feed.

It has a gear on the throat but the ends are capped.
It's probably best to keep it original and it is available. I live in Fall River MA. I was just looking for a old drill press.
