Old drill restoration - broken feed hub

Hi all,

Just looking for a few pointers regarding the broken feed hub on my drill press

I was thinking of perhaps cutting a piece of mild steel to fill in the hole and then welding it in, but are there any better ideas? I don't seem able to find the replacement part, correct me if I'm wrong but looking by the grain pattern it looks to be cast iron

I got a pretty good deal on this, but when the previous owner had moved it, it had snapped off an arm and a chunk of the hub as well, sorry hopefully you can see the photo here?

I don't know what equipment you have but I wouldn't expect to be able to just weld in a chunk of steel. I think the CI will crack. You could braze it though. If you can take it off, that's what I would do. Second choice would be to fill it with epoxy.

it looks like cast . braze is a go to way to repair it. watch some you tube videos on braze repair of cast .
that is a very common import drill press, you may be able to find parts for it

Drill and tap three new holes for the handles in between the existing holes.
